Steeped in history, the château was originally a hunting lodge for the Bishops of Brignoles and later served as a holiday home for the Paget, Douglas, and de Chambrun families. Sir Alfred Paget (Lord Uxbridge, Marquis of Anglesey), second in command under Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo, was married to Cecilia Paget, lady-in-waiting to Queen Victoria. The Queen herself visited and planted the magnificent 132-year-old pine tree in the garden, providing much-needed shade in the summer months. More recently, the property was owned by the Compte de Chambrun, who married Raine Spencer, stepmother to Princess Diana. Diana and her sons were frequent visitors during holidays in the South of France.
